Sweet About Me, written and performed by glór’s Associate Artist Jacinta Sheerin, is a one woman show about addiction. Set in a treatment centre and based on the lives of five characters, Sweet About Me explores alcohol, heroin and cocaine addiction through the eyes of the central character – 18 year old Bernadette Fagan who has an eating disorder, a controlling mother and a body image to die for. But food issues seem so trivial in comparison to the people with real problems like shooting heroin? Or does it? Sweet About Me looks at how society views and ranks addiction. It aims to dispel myths and open our hearts to the toughest characters that we might judge in an every-day encounter.
Jacinta Sheerin is a playwright, actor and dramatherapist from Dublin, living in Ennistymon, Co. Clare. Jacinta has recently become one of glór’s three Associate Artists, and we are delighted to premiere her new work in 2019
