glór is delighted to host a free concert by the Boston City Singers during their first tour to Ireland.

The Boston City Singers Choir was founded in 1995 in Boston, Massachusetts, to provide outstanding opportunities – musical skills and beyond – for young people, ages 4  up to high school, with 100% of our graduates being accepted to 4-year colleges and universities.

The 30-voice Tour Choir, conducted by Jane Money, Kimani Lumsden, and Dr. Matthew Leese, has a repertoire spanning classic American Jazz standards, traditional compositions from Ukraine to New Zealand, aurally learned Jamaican and South African folk songs, and much more. For the past 16 years, the Tour Choir has toured to Costa Rica, New Zealand and Australia, South Africa, South America, Canada, the Czech Republic, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The concert programme includes music and recitations including: Resilience; Ka Waiata Ki A Maria I Sing to Mary; On the Mountain  (Traditional Ukranian arr.); The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac Shakur (1971 – 1996); Amazing Grace; If I Had A Hammer; Woke Up this Morning; Hope is the Thing with Feathers by Emily Dickinson (1830 – 1886); Just the Way You Look Tonight (from Swingtime, 1936); All the Things You Are From Very Warm in May (1939); Lullaby of Birdland; I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou (1928 – 2014); Jamaican Folk Song Suite #3; Resilience by Melina Zullas; Liberty; Keep Your Lamps!

The 30-voice Tour Choir is conducted by Jane Money, Boston City Singers’ Founding Artistic Director, Kimani Lumsden and Dr. Matthew Leese. The choir is accompanied by Israeli concert pianist Tal Zilber, and is managed and assisted by Emma Greenough. Emma spent two and half years living in Cork City and founded and directed Cork Sanctuary Singers Youth Choir at the Kinsale Road DP Centre until March 2020. She is excited to be back in Ireland sharing music with the Boston City Singers! For the past 16 years, the Tour Choir has toured to Costa Rica, New Zealand and Australia, South Africa, South America, Canada, the Czech Republic, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. This is the choir’s first tour to Ireland.
